Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Yegi collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Yegi website and related services (the "Service").

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you sign up, our authentication provider (Clerk) collects your name, email address, profile photo, and any other details you provide.

Profile and learning data. The languages you speak and are learning, your skill level, interests, birth date, gender, bio, and onboarding answers.

Conversation content. Messages you send to other users, AI chat threads, reactions, corrections, pinned items, and audio recordings used for transcription.

Translations. We may cache translations of messages on a per-user basis to make the app faster.

Billing data. When you subscribe, Stripe collects your payment details directly. We never see your full card number. We store your Stripe customer ID, subscription status, plan, and renewal dates.

Usage and device data. Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps) and basic analytics so we can keep the Service reliable and improve it.

Moderation data. If you report a user or message, we store the report, the snapshot of the reported content, and the outcome. If a moderation action is taken against you, we keep a record of warnings issued (with the reason), and whether your account is currently banned along with when the ban took effect and the internal reason. Warnings issued and ban status are admin-only — they are not visible to other users.

Support communications.When you contact us via the in-app support form (Settings → Help & Support), we store the category, subject, message, and the timestamps of each interaction. Email replies you send to ongoing tickets — from your email address back to us — are received by Resend and attached to the same ticket so we have the full conversation history.

Voice room participation. When you join a voice room, we record metadata about your participation (room ID, role, join/leave timestamps, hand-raised state). Audio itself is transmitted live via LiveKit and is not stored by Yegi.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To operate the Service and your account.
  • To match you with other learners and personalize your experience.
  • To power AI features such as conversations, translations, pronunciation feedback, and transcription.
  • To process subscriptions, trials, and renewals.
  • To moderate content, investigate reports, and enforce our Terms of Service.
  • To communicate with you about updates, security, and support.
  • To detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

3. AI Processing

When you use AI features, your message content and, where applicable, audio recordings are sent to AI providers (for example, OpenAI) to generate a response or transcription. We instruct providers not to train their models on your data where that option is available. AI providers may temporarily retain content to monitor for abuse, subject to their own privacy policies.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:

  • Other users — your profile, public posts, and the messages you send to them.
  • Service providers we rely on to operate the Service: Clerk (authentication), Convex (database and backend), Stripe (payments), LiveKit (real-time voice rooms), Resend (transactional email delivery and inbound reply parsing), Vercel (hosting), and AI providers such as OpenAI (model inference, audio transcription, and translation).
  • Law enforcement or regulators, when we are required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Yegi, our users, or the public.
  • A successor in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you before your data is transferred.

5. Data Retention

We keep your account data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to support legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, and moderation purposes. When you delete your account, we remove your profile and private messages from our active systems; backups are rotated out over time. Aggregated or anonymized data may be retained indefinitely.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to certain uses. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below. You can also:

  • Edit your profile from the app at any time.
  • Block or report other users.
  • Cancel your subscription from the pricing page or by contacting us.
  • Delete your account, which removes your profile data.

7. Security

We use industry-standard security measures, including encrypted connections, authentication via Clerk, and managed infrastructure providers. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children

Yegi is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will take appropriate action.

9. International Transfers

Your information may be stored and processed in countries other than the one where you live, including by our service providers in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after the update means you accept the new policy.
